George William “Bill” Rogers and Thomas “Tom” Crayton Meredith started Bonitz after graduating from Georgia Tech and serving in the military. They approached a man they both deeply respected, John Bonitz, Sr. who owned and managed a subcontracting organization in North Carolina, to be an initial investor. When he agreed, part of the agreement reached was to use the name Bonitz, as he represented the values, quality of work, and reputation they admired. As the company grew, they eventually bought out Bonitz but retained the name. Both Tom and John moved on to launch other successful ventures, many of which collaborated with Bill Rogers (former CEO of Bonitz) over the years, further enhancing the company’s legacy and broadening its impact across the industry. Bill Rogers left many lasting footprints at Bonitz, notably through encouraging our associates to make a positive impact on their community. Today, Bill’s influence lives on through the annual Bill Rogers Scholarship, which extends his legacy by investing in the futures of promising students.
In 1989, Bonitz transitioned to an employee-owned company, a defining moment that reinforced our culture of shared success and accountability. Our team of dedicated employee-owners is deeply invested in the company’s mission. Every project matters, and the safety and well-being of our people is at the heart of everything we do.
